Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus acidophilus LB + atomoxetine is a combination therapy consisting of the probiotic strain Lactobacillus acidophilus LB and the pharmaceutical agent atomoxetine. Atomoxetine is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (NRI) approved for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It works by increasing norepinephrine and dopamine levels in the prefrontal cortex, improving symptoms of ADHD. Lactobacillus acidophilus LB is a probiotic used to support gut health and maintain healthy intestinal flora. Recent clinical research has investigated this combination as an adjunctive treatment for ADHD, with evidence suggesting that adding L. acidophilus LB to atomoxetine may further improve ADHD symptomatology and cognitive performance compared to atomoxetine alone[1][2][3]. The mechanism behind this benefit may involve modulation of the gut-brain axis by probiotics, potentially influencing neurocognitive function.
