Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus casei rhamnosus + ampicillin is a combination therapy consisting of the probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus casei rhamnosus and the beta-lactam antibiotic ampicillin. This combination has been studied for its efficacy in prolonging the latency period following preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM). Research has shown that adding L. casei rhamnosus to ampicillin prophylaxis significantly extends the latency period in patients with PPROM remote from term compared to ampicillin alone, resulting in better clinical outcomes including higher gestational weeks at delivery, better APGAR scores, and higher birth weights.
