Overview
Lactobacillus LB is a pharmaceutical-grade microbial therapy consisting of heat-killed (inactivated) *Lactobacillus fermentum* and *Lactobacillus delbrueckii* cells along with their fermented culture medium. Classified as a postbiotic, it exerts therapeutic effects without the need for bacterial viability. Its primary mechanisms include adhering to the intestinal mucosa to prevent the attachment of enteropathogenic bacteria, exerting direct antimicrobial activity, and modulating the local immune response. It is traditionally indicated for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea in both pediatric and adult populations. Clinical development has also focused on its efficacy in managing symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea (IBS-D), specifically targeting stool frequency and consistency.
