Overview

This combination consists of two probiotic bacterial strains, *Lactobacillus paracasei* subsp. *paracasei* and *Lactobacillus rhamnosus*, along with the amino acid L-arginine. It is primarily investigated and used as a dietary supplement for oral health, specifically for the prevention of dental caries (cavities). The mechanism involves a synergistic effect where the probiotics compete with cariogenic bacteria like *Streptococcus mutans* for colonization and nutrients, while arginine serves as a substrate for the arginine deiminase pathway (ADS) in beneficial oral bacteria (such as *Streptococcus sanguinis*). The metabolism of arginine produces ammonia, which helps neutralize the acidic environment in the oral biofilm, thereby raising the pH and inhibiting the demineralization of tooth enamel. This dual approach aims to shift the oral microbiome from a dysbiotic, acidogenic state to a more balanced, health-associated state.
