Overview

This is a combination dietary supplement containing live Lactobacillus probiotic strains and vitamin D (typically as cholecalciferol/vitamin D3). The formulation is designed to support gut health, immune function, nutrient absorption, and bone health. Mechanistically, Lactobacillus probiotics help maintain or restore healthy intestinal microflora by colonizing the gut and producing lactic acid. This can improve epithelial barrier function and modulate immune responses. Vitamin D acts primarily through the vitamin D receptor to regulate calcium/phosphate metabolism for bone health and also has immunomodulatory effects. Emerging evidence suggests that co-supplementation of these agents may have synergistic benefits in improving metabolic parameters (such as insulin sensitivity), reducing inflammation/oxidative stress, enhancing mental health outcomes in certain populations (e.g., schizophrenia), supporting infant digestive/immune development, improving athletic performance/recovery via gut microbiome modulation, and increasing serum vitamin D levels through improved absorption[1][2][3][5][6][7][8]. Commonly used strains include Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG; products may also contain Bifidobacterium species.
