Overview

*Lactobacillus reuteri* is a probiotic bacterium being evaluated by Shenzhen People's Hospital for the treatment of skin barrier impairment associated with obesity. In the clinical trial context, an inactive (heat-killed) preparation of the bacteria is administered orally at a dose of 1×10^11 CFU daily. The therapy is designed to leverage the gut-skin axis, where oral intake of specific microbial strains modulates the gut microbiome and reduces systemic inflammation, subsequently improving skin physiological parameters such as transepidermal water loss (TEWL). This approach targets the dermatological complications often observed in individuals with a high body mass index (BMI).
