*Lactobacillus reuteri* is a probiotic bacterium being evaluated by Shenzhen People's Hospital for the treatment of skin barrier impairment associated with obesity. In the clinical trial context, an inactive (heat-killed) preparation of the bacteria is administered orally at a dose of 1×10^11 CFU daily. The therapy is designed to leverage the gut-skin axis, where oral intake of specific microbial strains modulates the gut microbiome and reduces systemic inflammation, subsequently improving skin physiological parameters such as transepidermal water loss (TEWL).
