Overview

Lactobacillus salivarius LS01 (DSM 22775) + Bifidobacterium breve B632 (DSM 24706) is a combination of two live probiotic strains developed by Probiotical. It is also marketed under the brand name BIFIASTHM®. This biologic therapy is designed to act as a microbiome-based immunomodulator. The mechanism of action is believed to involve the gut-lung axis, where it suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-4, IL-13, and TNF-α, while increasing the production of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 and inhibiting NF-κB activation. Primarily studied for pediatric asthma and wheezing, the combination significantly reduced asthma exacerbations in the PROPAM (Probiotics in Pediatric Asthma Management) clinical trial. It has also shown potential benefits for atopic dermatitis and other allergic conditions. The product is typically administered as an oral powder, with each strain at a concentration of 1 x 10^9 CFU, mixed with bulking agents like maltodextrin.
