**Lactoferrin + human milk oligosaccharide** is a combination of two bioactive components commonly found in human milk and increasingly provided as supplements or in fortified infant formula. **Lactoferrin** is an iron-binding glycoprotein that exerts *immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral* effects, partly by binding iron and directly interacting with microbes. **Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs)** are structurally complex, unconjugated lactose-based carbohydrates that function as prebiotics, influencing infant gut microbiota composition, enhancing immune system development, and offering additional *antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial* activities by acting as decoy receptors and modulating immune signaling. Synthetic or manufactured HMOs are increasingly added to infant formulas to more closely mimic the functional benefits of breast milk. The combination in supplements or formulas aims to support infant gut and immune health and may benefit cognitive development, obesity prevention, and other health indications, both in infants and potentially in other populations[1][2][3][4].
