Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactoferrin + Immunoglobulin (Glycomax™) is an oral biologic/nutraceutical combination developed by Probiotec Pharma for the prevention and treatment of the common cold. It consists of bovine lactoferrin and a bovine whey-derived immunoglobulin-rich fraction. Lactoferrin is a multifunctional glycoprotein that inhibits viral entry by binding to viral surface proteins or host cell receptors (such as heparan sulfate proteoglycans), while the immunoglobulins provide passive immunity by binding directly to respiratory pathogens like rhinovirus, RSV, and influenza. The product has been evaluated in a Phase IIa clinical trial in Australia to assess its efficacy in reducing the incidence and duration of upper respiratory tract infection symptoms.
