Overview
Lactowell is a multi-strain probiotic supplement investigated for its therapeutic potential in patients with alcoholic hepatitis. Developed and studied by researchers at Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital, the treatment focuses on modulating the gut-liver axis to reduce the systemic absorption of gut-derived endotoxins such as lipopolysaccharides (LPS). By restoring healthy gut microbiota and improving intestinal barrier function, Lactowell aims to decrease the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and lower liver enzyme levels (AST and ALT), thereby mitigating alcohol-induced liver injury. It has been evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials as a 7-day oral therapy.
