Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LAIV + TIV refers to the combination or sequential administration of two types of influenza vaccines: the Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine (LAIV) and the Trivalent Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (TIV). LAIV is a live, weakened form of the virus administered intranasally, while TIV is an inactivated (killed) virus given by injection. Both vaccines are designed to induce immunity against three strains of seasonal influenza viruses—two A subtypes and one B lineage. LAIV induces both systemic and mucosal immune responses, including strong nasal secretory IgA production and robust T-cell responses. TIV primarily induces serum antibody responses through hemagglutinin inhibition. Studies have shown that prime/boost combinations using both LAIV and TIV are safe in young children and can induce similar protective antibody levels as either vaccine alone[1]. The combination may be used for immunization strategies where enhanced or broader immune protection is desired.
