Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lamisil Once is a specialized topical antifungal formulation containing terbinafine hydrochloride, designed for the single-dose treatment of tinea pedis (athlete's foot). The product utilizes a film-forming solution (FFS) technology; upon application to the feet, the liquid evaporates to leave a thin, invisible, occlusive film. This film serves as a reservoir, delivering the active ingredient into the stratum corneum where it persists at therapeutic concentrations for approximately 13 days. Terbinafine is an allylamine that acts by inhibiting fungal squalene epoxidase (squalene monooxygenase), a key enzyme in the ergosterol biosynthesis pathway. The resulting deficiency in ergosterol and the intracellular accumulation of squalene disrupt fungal cell membrane integrity and metabolism, leading to rapid fungicidal action.
