Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lamivudine + dolutegravir + abacavir is an oral fixed-dose combination antiretroviral regimen for treatment of HIV-1 infection. It combines two nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitors, abacavir and lamivudine, with the integrase strand transfer inhibitor dolutegravir. Abacavir and lamivudine inhibit HIV reverse transcriptase and terminate viral DNA chain elongation after intracellular phosphorylation, while dolutegravir blocks HIV integrase strand transfer and prevents integration of viral DNA into the host genome. Marketed as Triumeq and Triumeq PD, this small-molecule combination was developed by ViiV Healthcare and is used in adults and pediatric patients as a complete once-daily regimen; it is not curative but suppresses viral replication and supports immune recovery.
