lamivudine + emtricitabine

Lamivudine + emtricitabine is a hypothetical combination of two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), both commonly used as part of antiretroviral therapy for HIV infection. Lamivudine and emtricitabine share a similar mechanism of action, inhibiting the reverse transcriptase enzyme required for viral replication in HIV. Both drugs are cytidine analogues and are rarely, if ever, combined together in clinical practice due to their overlapping activity and lack of additive benefit. Instead, each is typically paired with other NRTIs such as tenofovir or abacavir in fixed-dose combinations[5][10]. There is no approved or marketed product that contains only lamivudine and emtricitabine.
