Overview
Epicomb is a fixed-dose combination antiretroviral medication developed by EIPICO, containing two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs): lamivudine and zidovudine. It is a generic version of the brand-name drug Combivir. Epicomb is indicated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection as part of a combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) regimen. Both active ingredients are prodrugs that undergo intracellular phosphorylation to their active triphosphate forms. These active metabolites compete with natural deoxyribonucleosides for incorporation into viral DNA by the HIV-1 reverse transcriptase enzyme, leading to DNA chain termination and inhibition of viral replication.
