lansoprazole + omeprazole (Effexus Pharmaceutical)

Secretol (also spelled Secretrol) is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product comprising two proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), lansoprazole and omeprazole, developed by Effexus Pharmaceutical. It is specifically designed for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and severe erosive esophagitis. Both components are small molecule drugs that target the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme (the gastric acid pump) on the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells. By inhibiting this enzyme, the drug effectively reduces the production of stomach acid, facilitating the healing of esophageal mucosa. Clinical evaluation has included a Phase 1/2 randomized trial comparing the efficacy of Secretol 80/80 (80 mg of each component) against esomeprazole (Nexium) for the complete healing of severe erosive esophagitis and the management of GERD symptoms.
