Overview

Lasmiditan + sumatriptan refers to a combination of two distinct antimigraine medications. Lasmiditan is a first-in-class neurally-acting selective serotonin 5-HT1F receptor agonist (a "ditan") used in the acute treatment of migraine. Unlike triptans, it does not cause vasoconstriction, and works by inhibiting release of CGRP and other neurotransmitters, decreasing trigeminal pain signaling in both peripheral and central nervous systems[1][2][3]. Sumatriptan is a selective serotonin 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist (a "triptan") used for acute migraine relief by vasoconstricting intracranial blood vessels and inhibiting neuropeptide release on the trigeminal pathway[1][2]. Both are used for acute migraine attacks, but with distinct mechanisms and safety profiles[4]. There is no approved fixed-dose combination product of lasmiditan + sumatriptan; this refers to co-administration or concurrent prescription.
