Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Latanoprost + timolol** is a fixed-dose ophthalmic combination of latanoprost, a prostaglandin F receptor agonist prodrug, and timolol, a nonselective beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist. It is administered as eye drops to lower elevated intraocular pressure in adults with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who have responded inadequately to topical monotherapy. Latanoprost increases aqueous-humor outflow, principally through the uveoscleral pathway, while timolol reduces aqueous-humor production; their complementary actions provide greater intraocular-pressure reduction than either component alone. Marketed formulations include preserved multidose products such as Xalacom and preservative-free unit-dose products such as Fixapost.
