Overview

A combination of lecithin and tacrine (tetrahydroaminoacridine) that was investigated as a potential treatment for Alzheimer's disease. The combination aimed to enhance cholinergic neurotransmission by combining tacrine's acetylcholinesterase inhibitory properties with lecithin as a source of choline, which is a precursor to acetylcholine. Clinical trials in the late 1980s and early 1990s showed limited efficacy and significant safety concerns, particularly hepatotoxicity.
