Overview
The combination of lenalidomide (marketed as Revlimid), melphalan (Alkeran), prednisone, and thalidomide (Thalomid)—abbreviated as RMPT—is a multi-agent chemotherapy regimen used primarily in the treatment of relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. Lenalidomide and thalidomide are immunomodulatory drugs that inhibit angiogenesis and modulate the immune system to target cancer cells. Melphalan is an alkylating agent that crosslinks DNA, leading to cell death. Prednisone is a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties that also induces apoptosis in certain cancer cells. This combination has demonstrated efficacy with manageable side effects in clinical studies for patients who have failed previous therapies[2][4].
