Overview
Leuprolide acetate + bicalutamide is a combination therapy used primarily for the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer. Leuprolide acetate is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist that suppresses the production of testosterone by downregulating pituitary secretion of luteinizing hormone, leading to medical castration. Bicalutamide is a nonsteroidal antiandrogen that blocks androgen receptors, preventing testosterone from stimulating prostate cancer cell growth. This combination is commonly used to achieve maximal androgen blockade and reduce tumor flare associated with initial GnRH agonist therapy[1][2][3][4][5][8].
