Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Liversam is a veterinary anthelmintic suspension developed by Sams Pharmaceutical. It is a fixed-dose combination containing levamisole hydrochloride, oxyclozanide, and cobalt sulphate. Levamisole acts as a cholinergic agonist on nematode nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, causing spastic paralysis and expulsion of gastrointestinal roundworms and lungworms. Oxyclozanide is a salicylanilide that uncouples mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, specifically targeting adult liver flukes (*Fasciola hepatica*) and rumen flukes (*Paramphistomum*). Cobalt sulphate is included as a nutritional supplement to support vitamin B12 synthesis in ruminants. Liversam is indicated for the treatment and control of mixed endoparasitic infestations in livestock such as cattle, sheep, and goats.
