Levocarnitine + methylphenidate is a combination of two agents, each with distinct mechanisms and indications. Levocarnitine (L-carnitine) is a naturally occurring amino acid derivative involved in the transport of long-chain fatty acids into mitochondria for energy production, primarily used to treat carnitine deficiency[4][7]. Methylphenidate is a central nervous system stimulant that blocks the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine, enhancing neurotransmission in the brain; it is widely used for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy[6]. The combination has been studied as an adjunctive therapy for ADHD, but clinical trials have not demonstrated significant additional benefit over methylphenidate alone[1][2][5][8]. Both drugs are available as generics.
