levocarnitine + vitamin B complex is a combination therapy being investigated by M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced hyperbilirubinemia in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). This condition often arises as a hepatotoxic side effect of treatments such as PEG-asparaginase or inotuzumab ozogamicin. Levocarnitine, a naturally occurring amino acid derivative, is essential for mitochondrial fatty acid metabolism, facilitating the transport of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondrial matrix for beta-oxidation. Vitamin B complex provides necessary enzymatic cofactors for cellular energy production. Together, these mitochondrial cofactors aim to mitigate drug-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and promote the recovery of hepatic function, thereby normalizing elevated bilirubin levels.
