Levocetirizine + hydroxyzine is a combination of two antihistamines, each with distinct pharmacological profiles. Levocetirizine is a third-generation non-sedating antihistamine used primarily to relieve symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis and chronic urticaria by selectively inhibiting peripheral histamine H1 receptors[8]. Hydroxyzine is a first-generation sedating antihistamine of the piperazine class, used for the treatment of anxiety, pruritus (itching), and as an adjunct in anesthesia due to its sedative and antiemetic properties[5][6]. Both drugs act as antagonists at the histamine H1 receptor but differ in their ability to cross the blood-brain barrier—hydroxyzine causes more central nervous system depression than levocetirizine. The combination may increase side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired coordination; therefore, concurrent use is generally not recommended unless specifically indicated under medical supervision[1].
