Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This drug is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) of levocetirizine and pseudoephedrine, developed by Eurofarma Laboratorios for the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis. Levocetirizine is a second-generation H1-antihistamine that provides relief from symptoms such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, and pruritus by selectively antagonizing peripheral histamine H1 receptors. Pseudoephedrine is a sympathomimetic amine that acts as a nasal decongestant by stimulating alpha-adrenergic receptors, leading to vasoconstriction in the nasal mucosa and reducing nasal obstruction. The combination is specifically designed to address cases where antihistamine monotherapy is insufficient to manage significant nasal congestion. It has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials (such as the ALERZIN study) to demonstrate superiority over levocetirizine alone in relieving nasal blockage.
