ALC-2209 is an improved new drug (fixed-dose combination) developed by Korea Arlico Pharm for the treatment of respiratory diseases, particularly acute bronchitis. It combines levodropropizine, a peripheral antitussive that suppresses the cough reflex by inhibiting sensory neuropeptide release in the airways, with bromhexine hydrochloride, a mucolytic agent that reduces the viscosity of phlegm to facilitate expectoration. This combination aims to provide synergistic relief for patients suffering from cough and excessive bronchial secretions. As of 2024, the candidate is in Phase 3 clinical trials in South Korea.
