Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Downtuss is a fixed-dose combination oral syrup containing levodropropizine (30 mg) and chlorpheniramine maleate (2 mg) per 5 mL, developed and marketed by Healthkind Labs. It is indicated for the symptomatic relief of dry, non-productive cough and associated allergic symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes. Levodropropizine is a peripherally acting, non-opioid antitussive that suppresses the cough reflex by inhibiting sensory C-fiber activation and reducing the release of neuropeptides (such as substance P) in the respiratory tract. Chlorpheniramine is a first-generation antihistamine that acts as an inverse agonist of the histamine H1 receptor, alleviating allergy-induced mucosal inflammation and airway hyperresponsiveness.
