Levofloxacin + azithromycin is a fixed-dose combination of two antibiotics used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and cervicitis. Levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication and repair in bacteria. Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that binds to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, inhibiting protein synthesis by blocking the nascent peptide exit tunnel on 23S rRNA. The combination provides broad-spectrum coverage against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria as well as atypical pathogens.
