Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Levofloxacin + dexamethasone is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic solution containing two active ingredients: levofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and dexamethasone, a corticosteroid. This combination is primarily indicated for the prevention and treatment of inflammation and the prevention of infection associated with cataract surgery in adults. Levofloxacin acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and bacterial topoisomerase IV, thereby preventing bacterial replication. Dexamethasone exerts its anti-inflammatory effects by binding to glucocorticoid receptor, suppressing inflammatory cytokines and mediators. The combination provides both potent anti-infective coverage against ocular pathogens and effective control of post-surgical inflammation[1][2][3][6]. It is administered as eye drops.
