Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic formulation containing levofloxacin, prednisolone (often as the acetate), and sodium carboxymethylcellulose. Levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA-gyrase, thereby preventing bacterial replication and leading to cell death. Prednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory properties; it works by inhibiting the synthesis of pro-inflammatory mediators, reducing redness, swelling, and irritation in ocular tissues. Sodium carboxymethylcellulose acts as an ocular lubricant to relieve dryness and protect the eye surface. This combination is primarily used for post-operative steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions or for treating bacterial infections of the eye where inflammation and dryness are also present[3][7][9].
