Overview
Wisefemy is a branded generic combined oral contraceptive (COC) marketed by Alna Biotech. It consists of a fixed-dose combination of levonorgestrel, a second-generation synthetic progestin, and ethinyl estradiol, a synthetic estrogen. The primary mechanism of action is the suppression of ovulation through the inhibition of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, specifically by reducing the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Additionally, Wisefemy alters the cervical mucus to impede sperm transport and modifies the endometrium to inhibit implantation. It is indicated for the prevention of pregnancy and may also be used for the management of menstrual irregularities and dysmenorrhea.
