Overview
Comthyroid is a combination pharmaceutical product containing synthetic versions of the two primary thyroid hormones: levothyroxine (T4) and liothyronine (T3). It is primarily used for thyroid hormone replacement therapy in patients with hypothyroidism, particularly those who remain symptomatic on levothyroxine monotherapy or those who have undergone total thyroidectomy. The medication is designed to more closely mimic the physiological secretion of both hormones by the human thyroid gland compared to T4-only treatments. In clinical research, such as studies conducted by Inje University in South Korea, Comthyroid has been investigated for its potential to alleviate psychological distress, including depression, anxiety, and fatigue, in thyroid cancer patients following surgical removal of the thyroid gland. It is manufactured by Bukwang Pharmaceutical in South Korea.
