Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Licorice root extract + pomegranate juice is a combination of two plant-derived dietary supplements, each with a history of traditional use and studied bioactive properties. Licorice root extract contains glycyrrhizin and other compounds that may have anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and mucosal-protective effects. Pomegranate juice is rich in polyphenols such as ellagitannins (notably punicalagin), anthocyanins, flavonols, and ellagic acid, which contribute to its antioxidant and potential antiatherosclerotic activities. Both ingredients are used for various health purposes including digestive support (e.g., acid reflux), cough management, metabolic health (e.g., type 2 diabetes), cardiovascular protection, and as general antioxidants[4][5][6]. The combination has been investigated primarily for its impact on the pharmacokinetics of drugs such as metformin or theophylline in animal models; licorice may delay drug absorption while pomegranate may reduce peak plasma concentrations[1][3][4]. No unique pharmaceutical product or brand name formulation containing both ingredients was identified.
