lidocaine + bupivacaine is a combination of two aminoamide local anesthetics being investigated by The Catholic University of Korea for the management of acute postoperative pain following nasal closed reduction surgery for nasal fractures. Lidocaine provides a rapid onset of local anesthesia, while bupivacaine offers a significantly longer duration of action, making the combination suitable for both immediate and sustained pain control. Both agents function by binding to the intracellular portion of voltage-gated sodium channels in neuronal membranes, which prevents the influx of sodium ions and inhibits the depolarization and conduction of nerve impulses. In the clinical trial context, the treatment involves a preoperative lidocaine spray followed by nasal packing soaked in a mixture of both lidocaine and bupivacaine to mitigate pain associated with the surgical realignment of fractured nasal bones.
