Overview

This is a combination medication containing three active ingredients: 1. **Lidocaine**: An amide-type local anesthetic with rapid onset but relatively short duration of action. It works by blocking sodium channels in nerve membranes, preventing the generation and conduction of nerve impulses[8]. 2. **Bupivacaine**: A long-acting amide-type local anesthetic with slower onset but extended duration of action compared to lidocaine. Like lidocaine, it blocks sodium channels but provides longer-lasting analgesia[2][9]. 3. **Clonidine**: An alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that, when used as an adjuvant to local anesthetics, can prolong the duration of analgesia. It has been used for many years as an additive to short-, intermediate-, and long-acting local anesthetics[1][5]. The combination is primarily used in peripheral nerve blocks, epidural anesthesia, and other regional anesthetic techniques to provide extended pain relief during and after surgical procedures[1][6].
