Lidocaine + chlorprocaine is a combination of two local anesthetics used primarily for regional or local anesthesia. Lidocaine is an amide-type local anesthetic that works by blocking sodium channels in neuronal cell membranes, thereby inhibiting nerve impulse conduction and producing loss of sensation in the targeted area[8]. Chlorprocaine is an ester-type local anesthetic with a rapid onset and short duration of action; it also blocks sodium channels to prevent nerve signal transmission[3][6][10]. The combination may be used to achieve rapid onset (from chlorprocaine) with sufficient duration (from lidocaine) for procedures requiring quick but effective anesthesia, such as certain surgical or obstetric interventions. Both agents act on the cardiovascular and central nervous systems at higher doses but are generally safe when administered appropriately. This combination does not have a unique brand name formulation but may be compounded for specific clinical uses.
