lidocaine + dexamethasone

This drug combination consists of the local anesthetic lidocaine and the synthetic glucocorticoid dexamethasone, investigated by Assiut University as an adjuvant therapy for intravenous regional anesthesia (IVRA), also known as a Bier block. Lidocaine acts by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels to inhibit nerve conduction, while dexamethasone is added to enhance the duration of sensory and motor blockade and provide extended postoperative analgesia. This specific combination is primarily utilized in patients undergoing forearm orthopedic surgeries to improve anesthetic efficacy, reduce tourniquet pain, and decrease the requirement for postoperative opioids.
