Overview

Lidocaine + epinephrine is a combination injectable local anesthetic used to induce numbness or loss of feeling in specific areas during medical procedures. Lidocaine acts as a local anesthetic by stabilizing neuronal membranes and inhibiting the ionic fluxes required for the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses, thereby blocking pain signals. Epinephrine is added as a vasoconstrictor to slow the absorption of lidocaine into systemic circulation, which prolongs its anesthetic effect at the site of administration and reduces bleeding during procedures. This combination is commonly used for minor surgical interventions, dental procedures, skin lesion removal, biopsies, wound suturing, and other situations where localized anesthesia with reduced bleeding is desired[1][2][3][5][8].
