Lidocaine + normal saline is a combination therapy being investigated by Sohag University for the management of advanced hip damage in patients with axial spondyloarthritis. This intervention combines hip denervation, achieved through the injection of lidocaine (a local anesthetic), with intra-articular hydration using normal saline. Lidocaine functions by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels, thereby inhibiting the conduction of pain signals from the affected joint. Normal saline is injected into the hip joint to provide mechanical hydration, which may improve joint mobility and reduce friction. This combination is specifically targeted at patients with high BASRI scores (3 and 4) to alleviate pain and improve functional outcomes. The therapy is administered via perineural injection for denervation and intra-articular injection for hydration.
