Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lifitegrast + perfluorohexyloctane is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic drug being developed for the treatment of dry eye disease. Lifitegrast is a small molecule lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) antagonist that reduces ocular surface inflammation by inhibiting T cell activation. Perfluorohexyloctane (PFHO, formerly NOV03) is a nonaqueous, preservative-free, semifluorinated alkane eye drop that primarily stabilizes the tear film lipid layer, reducing evaporation and improving ocular surface lubrication. The combination aims to address both the inflammatory and evaporative components of dry eye disease by simultaneously targeting T-cell mediated inflammation (lifitegrast) and tear film stabilization (perfluorohexyloctane). Clinical studies are underway to assess safety and efficacy; Bausch & Lomb is the lead developer and sponsor of these studies[1][2][4][7].
