Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lignocaine + bupivacaine + dexamethasone is an extemporaneously mixed, unbranded combination of generic drugs. It is not a single proprietary product, and there is no company developing it. The combination is used as a local anesthetic and analgesic mixture for peripheral nerve blocks (such as axillary brachial plexus block or inferior alveolar plus buccal nerve block) to provide rapid onset and prolonged duration of anesthesia and postoperative analgesia. Lignocaine (lidocaine) and bupivacaine are amide local anesthetics that block voltage-gated sodium channels, while dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that acts on the glucocorticoid receptor as an adjuvant to prolong the duration of the sensory and motor blockade.
