Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lignocaine + dextrose (also known as lidocaine and dextrose) is an approved, fixed-dose injectable combination of the local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic agent lignocaine (lidocaine) and dextrose. Developed as a generic life-saving injectable by Walker's Pharmaceuticals, this formulation is primarily utilized for spinal (intrathecal) anesthesia and the management of cardiac arrhythmias. Lignocaine functions as a sodium channel blocker, preventing the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses to produce local anesthesia. The addition of dextrose increases the baricity of the solution, rendering it hyperbaric, which allows for controlled spread and localization of the anesthetic within the spinal canal during intrathecal administration.
