Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lignocaine in Ringer's solution is an investigational non-hormonal therapy developed by Isifer AB for the treatment of endometriosis-associated dysmenorrhea. The treatment is administered via intrauterine pertubation (flushing), where the solution is passed through the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes using an intracervical balloon catheter. Lignocaine, a small molecule local anesthetic, acts as a sodium channel blocker to inhibit pain signaling from nerve endings and possesses anti-inflammatory properties that may modulate intraperitoneal macrophages and cytokine levels. This approach targets the pathophysiology of endometriosis, including increased nerve fiber density and peritoneal inflammation, offering a potential alternative to hormonal treatments.
