Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lipikar Baume AP+ is a lipid-replenishing emollient balm developed by La Roche-Posay (a brand of L'Oréal) specifically for the management of atopic dermatitis (AD) and extremely dry, itchy skin (xerosis). The formulation is distinguished by the inclusion of **Aqua Posae Filiformis**, a prebiotic lysate derived from the non-pathogenic bacterium *Vitreoscilla filiformis*, which is intended to rebalance the skin microbiome and improve barrier function. Other key active ingredients include **niacinamide** for its anti-inflammatory properties, **shea butter** for lipid replenishment, and **Microresyl** to limit the formation of *Staphylococcus aureus* biofilms. Clinical research has evaluated Lipikar Baume AP+ both as a primary prevention strategy in high-risk infants and as a supportive baseline therapy for adults with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis undergoing systemic treatments such as dupilumab, cyclosporine, or JAK inhibitors.
