Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination ophthalmic therapy for dry eye disease, consisting of three components: - **Liposic EDO Gel** (a carbomer-based gel): Acts as a tear substitute, providing lubrication and mimicking the natural tear film to relieve symptoms of dry eye such as irritation and burning. It forms a protective layer over the ocular surface, improving moistening and comfort[1][3]. - **Diquafosol tetrasodium**: A small molecule P2Y2 receptor agonist that stimulates fluid secretion from conjunctival epithelial cells and promotes mucin secretion from goblet cells. This enhances both the aqueous and mucin layers of the tear film, improving tear stability and ocular surface health[5][6][9]. - **Hyaluronic acid** (sodium hyaluronate): A naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan with strong water-retaining properties. It hydrates the ocular surface, promotes epithelial healing, reduces inflammation, and increases tear film stability[2][4][6]. The combination is designed to address multiple aspects of dry eye pathophysiology by lubricating (carbomer gel), stimulating endogenous fluid/mucin production (diquafosol), and hydrating/protecting tissue (hyaluronic acid). Clinical studies suggest that combining diquafosol with hyaluronic acid provides superior improvement in subjective symptoms, visual performance after LASIK surgery, Schirmer test values (tear production), corneal staining scores, and overall efficacy compared to monotherapy with either agent alone[6][8]. The product is primarily indicated for mild-to-severe dry eye disease.
