Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Liposomal amphotericin B developed by Sichuan Huiyu Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd is a generic liposomal formulation of the antifungal antibiotic amphotericin B, designed as a bioequivalent alternative to the reference product AmBisome. Amphotericin B is a macrocyclic polyene antifungal agent that exerts its effect by binding to ergosterol, a vital sterol component of fungal cell membranes. This binding leads to the formation of transmembrane channels or pores, causing the leakage of essential intracellular components and ultimately resulting in fungal cell death. The liposomal delivery system is specifically engineered to improve the drug's safety profile, particularly by reducing the nephrotoxicity associated with conventional amphotericin B deoxycholate formulations. Sichuan Huiyu Pharmaceutical is currently conducting bioequivalence studies in healthy subjects to support the regulatory approval of this product for the treatment of serious systemic fungal infections.
