Overview
This is a combination of two local anesthetic formulations—liposomal bupivacaine and conventional bupivacaine (bupivacaine hydrochloride). Liposomal bupivacaine is an extended-release formulation in which the active drug is encapsulated within multivesicular liposomes, allowing for prolonged release and sustained analgesic effect at the site of administration. Conventional bupivacaine provides rapid onset but shorter duration of action. The combination aims to provide both immediate and extended postoperative pain control by leveraging the fast onset of conventional bupivacaine with the prolonged effect of liposomal bupivacaine. Both act as sodium channel blockers, inhibiting nerve impulse transmission to produce local or regional anesthesia or analgesia, primarily used in surgical settings for postsurgical pain management[1][4][6][9].
