Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Liposome bupivacaine is an extended-release formulation of the amide-type local anesthetic bupivacaine, utilizing the DepoFoam multivesicular liposome technology. It is designed to provide prolonged postsurgical analgesia by slowly releasing bupivacaine into the surgical site over several days. Developed by Pacira BioSciences, it is primarily indicated for single-dose infiltration in adults to produce postsurgical local analgesia and as an interscalene brachial plexus nerve block. By blocking voltage-gated sodium channels on the internal surface of nerve cell membranes, it prevents the generation and conduction of nerve impulses, thereby providing pain relief.
