Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination therapy consisting of three active pharmaceutical ingredients: - **Liraglutide** is a glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist used for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes and for weight management (obesity). It enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses inappropriate glucagon secretion, and slows gastric emptying. - **Metformin** is a biguanide, commonly used as a first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes. Its primary mechanisms involve reducing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal glucose absorption, and improving insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues, largely through activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). - **Testosterone undecanoate** is an androgen and anabolic steroid, used as a prodrug for testosterone replacement therapy, primarily for men with clinical symptoms of hypogonadism. It is converted to testosterone in the body, which then acts on androgen receptors to exert its effects. This combination is not available as a single fixed-dose formulation but rather represents the concomitant administration of three separate approved medications, often for patients with comorbidities such as type 2 diabetes (managed by liraglutide and metformin), concurrent obesity (managed by liraglutide), and hypogonadism (managed by testosterone undecanoate).
